Nine horse trainers took 9 horses that had never been saddled and ridden and trained them for 100 days then competed at the Gimme Shelter: Trainers’ Rally for Rescues event at the National Day of the Cowboy celebration. Over 1200 people witnessed what a difference a little training can make in the lives of these horse. The horses were then auctioned off to qualified bidders and went to their new homes.
The individual personalities of the rescue horses and the role of the trainers in their lives is the focus of the new documentary. Most horses end up at the Shelter because they have never been taught boundaries or skills. Wells said
she was touched to see that all the trainers were genuinely invested in the welfare of the horses. “These horses are priceless,” trainer Erica Hess told the filmmaker, “and I feel like we’re just mining the gold that is in each of them.”

Trailer: https://vimeo.com/58994421 /

https://www.facebook.com/OutoftheWildMovie/?fref=ts

Twitter: https://twitter.com/outofthewildm

Out of the Wild is the story of Henry McBride, a down and out cowboy with a painful past he can't drink away.

Living on his last dollar with nowhere to go, he ends up working the last place an old cowboy wants to be: A dude ranch. It is here he meets the owner, Jessie King, a no-nonsense rancher with a deep love for horses. McBride's self-discovery begins when she introduces him to a new way of training a troubled mustang, a horse whose past and temperament mirror his own.

As the story brings together the paths of these two beaten souls, man and horse, it is King that sees a shared spirit deep within them- One that is hidden beneath anguish, torment, and years endured in the darkest of places. Behind the broken heart of a family lost, a soul tormented with guilt, and an endless haze of booze to dull the pain, she knows McBride is at heart a good man. Just as she knows the mustang can once again find that spirit, so too must McBride.

What transpires is a story of redemption, moving McBride beyond even his deepest wounds to discover a life he never thought possible.

For the horse trainer known for his respect and consideration of the horse, Mark Rashid’s journey of seeing his first novel, "Out of the Wild,” transformed into a feature film has been a lot like his horsemanship.

"Sometimes, when we’re working with a horse, we think we’re going to work with Topic A today. But as we begin, we see that Topic Y is the one that needs attention. You work with what is being presented, and you go with where it’s going,” said Rashid, who’s based in Colorado and teaches around the US and abroad.

"And no matter what area you’re working on,” he added, "the consistency, consideration and integrity are always centered on helping the horse feel better at the end of the session than at the beginning.”

For a century, these horses have embodied the California dream to spectators worldwide, evoking California’s storied past of immigration and empire-building and illuminating shifting attitudes on race, social status and personal identity. Into the cauldron of desire, possibility and the alchemy of transformation that was early California, came the aristocratic Spanish colonists known as the Californios, among them the Camarillo family. Trailer: https://vimeo.com/146295315

Documentary of LOMITAS: The life of the german thoroughbred called Lomitas had it all – class, courage, talent, but also crime, highs and lows. Owned by Walther Jacobs' Fährhof Stud, where he was bred, and trained by Andreas Wöhler, he won his first two races as a juvenile, but then became claustrophobic, a trait that manifested itself infamously when he refused to enter the stalls for the German 2,000 Guineas. Horse whisperer Monty Roberts conquered the problem. In the summer of 1992 he was the victim of a blackmail attempt, with a threat to kill him if a demand for money was not met. To prove the point, he was poisoned. Under utmost security, Lomitas had to be rushed out of Germany, spending time in England in disguise before being transferred to America, back to the care of Roberts. His racing career was over, as he needed a long time to get over the attack, with his feet affected most.

The 79th Annual Carolina Cup will be run Saturday in Camden.  Thousands of people will be arriving at the Springdale Race Course in their bright dresses and seersucker suits anticipating one of the largest social events of the season. Arch Kingsley Jr., has been  preparing for the Carolina Cup for a different reason. He is training Sunshine Numbers, a nine year-old thoroughbred, for his first steeplechase of the season Saturday.

Kingsley and Sunshine Numbers developed a special relationship during the six years they have worked together. "My relationship with him is to figure out what makes him happy and help him to understand what I need from him and we meet somewhere in the middle," said Kingsley.  Kingsley says the thoroughbred lets him know what he's thinking. "Sunshine Numbers is very particular and opinionated horse. He doesn't make any mistake about what's on his mind," he said. Known as "The Dude" by most everyone at the stables, Sunshine Numbers is an exceptional racehorse. He won seven out of the last 18 races he competed in. Kingsley says that's an extraordinary record.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/Unbridled_Movie

"Unbridled" is an emotionally gripping, unforgettable and uplifting story of redemption, healing, and overcoming some of life’s greatest obstacles. This captivating feature film tells the tale of an abused girl who teams up with an abused horse and their journey to healing. Inspired by a true story, the movie features actors you love such as Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight; The Expendables) and T.C. Stallings (War Room; Courageous).
"Unbridled" was created to draw attention to the practice of sexual slavery, which is growing in all parts of the world, paticularly in the suburbs of the USA. Please help us expose the atrocity of child sexual abuse and trafficking. With your support we will call attention to this industry and how to recognize this abuse. And what better way to do that than through a movie?!
"Unbridled" is inspired by the Corral Riding Academy in Cary, NC. Since 2008 the Corral Riding Academy has been privileged to help over 100 abused girls through one-year long therapy programs. They pair up abused girls with abused horses and through intensive one-on-one training the girls teach the horses to trust. In the process the girls also learn to trust again. These true stories of hope and healing were the inspiration for "Unbridled." A portion of the proceeds from "Unbridled" sales go directly to Corral.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/WildHorsesSable

“I wish to bring my experience among the wild horses of Sable Island to people around the world, to show them true wilderness in its primal state, unaware and unafraid of man. I wish to recreate for others, as nearly as possible, my extraordinary experience—what it was like for me to step onto their untouched land, what it was like for them to see me, and what they would remember from the encounter long afterward.” —Roberto Dutesco, Photographer
A story worth telling – over and over again.
A fragile sliver of sand more than one hundred miles off the coast of Nova Scotia is sending the world a message. This tiny, windswept island sits at the center of what is known as “the Graveyard of the Atlantic,” and, since the seventeenth century, its shoals have been the site of more than 475 shipwrecks. This slender island—Sable Island—42 km in length and just 1.5 km wide, is home to more than four hundred wild horses. Abandoned there by sailors long ago or cast ashore from wrecks on the many sandbars that surround the island, this feral herd has managed to thrive in an austere, unforgiving environment that offers not a single sheltering tree and just sea grass and rainwater ponds for sustenance. Never permanently settled, Sable Island has, however, seen temporary occupation by shipwrecked sailors, transported convicts, pirates and wreckers. The first recorded shipwreck was of one of Sir Humphrey Gilbert’s ships in 1583. In 1598 the Marquis de La Roche landed forty convict settlers on the island. Only twelve survived, to be rescued in 1603. Manned lighthouses were established in 1873 but have been automated since the 1960s.
